Glow-Wire Tester according to DIN EN 60695-2-10

1. Brief Description 
 
The tester serves to investigate the fire-resistant properties of materials and final products. The glow-wire itself is the source of fire. The temperature of the glow-wire is set and controlled by a temperature controller. During a test the temperature controller can be operated in a manual mode to generate a defined voltage signal on the manipulated variable (glow-wire), thus avoiding a feedback of the reference variable (thermocouple) on the temperature controller. The temperature of the glow-wire can 
be set from room temperature to 1000掳C. The temperature of the glow-wire is detected by a sheathed thermocouple type K (class 1) in accordance with IEC 60584-2. During the test the specimen is moved at a constant velocity of 11 mm/sec toward the glow-wire and back. The heating time of 30 sec is quartz-controlled. The specimen support is pulled toward the glow-wire with a force of 1 N. The power supply is 230 VAC 卤 10% (50 Hz). During a test the specimen table is pulled towards the glow-wire with a force of 1 N.  

 
2. Set-Up 
 
Insert the glow-wire into the corresponding brass clamp. Between the tip of the glow-wire and the stop of the brass clamp there should be a distance of 70 mm (see also the standard). If the distance is different the a high temperature can not be reached. Now insert the thermocouple into the clamp using the milling wheel screw and move it carefully into the glow-wire until you reach the stop. Fix the thermocouple with the milling wheel screw and connect its plug to the corresponding socket on the 
front side of the housing. Connect then the tester to the power supply using the power cable. Hang the weights, as shown on the picture, on the corresponding guideway. Also mount the measuring scale for the flame height and place the bowl under the glow-wire.
